The Spark Duo at SMCo.

Spark Duo performs an eclectic program of new works for clarinet and trumpet, mixing solos, duos, improvisations, and live electronics. The music ranges from groove-based works like Jacob TV’s Close Fight to more ambient pieces like Rojin Sharafi’s Magma. Kevin Joust’s Thoughts and Prayers contends with issues of gun violence in America while Ford Fourqurean’s catch fire deals with the new politics of climate change. The program also features a new premiere by Sam Zagnit and a reworking of Shifting no. 2 by Michael Lanci.

Ford Fourqurean regularly performs across New York City at venues ranging from National Sawdust, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall, Rockwood Music Hall, and Spectrum to DIY spaces and house concerts. During the 2018-19 season, he performed and presented guest artist lectures with Unheard-of//Ensemble as part of their second Midwest and Southern Tours, and also toured the Midwest with Tenth Intervention and Paul Pinto in performances of Peter Maxwell Davies’s Eight Songs for a Mad King.

Kate is extremely dedicated to commissioning and performing new music, premiering over 30 pieces both as a soloist and a chamber musician. Her debut album “As I Am” was released in Fall 2017, featuring new music by women composers. Kate’s second album of music inspired by politics and social concepts is due for release in September 2019.
